1. Introduction Air travel may be seen as risky, when an aircraft goes down it is reported on the news and the pictures can
be shocking or upsetting, but in terms of safety perception the most relevant aspect is the level of recall they create as they are very memorable (Haralambos and Holborn, 2004).
However, if air travel is considered it may be seen as one of the safest forms of travel, for staff and passengers and over the last twenty years accident rates
have been very low, for example, in 2006 there were a total of 25 aircraft crashes in the US with only 2 fatalities this equated to 0.179 accidents per 1
million aircraft departures in the US1 (Air Transport Association of America, 2007). The passenger industry receives the highest level of attention, but in addition to the passenger industry the
cargo industry is also important but the lower level of attention is reflective of the smaller proportion of the market it makes up. In 2005 the aviation industry passenger
and cargo was worth US $98.1 billion, of this 83.9% was the passenger industry and the remaining 16.1% was made up of cargo (Euromonitor, 2005). The profiles of the market
are different and the types of aircraft and the types of crew used are different. However there is little research that looks at whether or not there is any different
