"snap" and stoop to such heinous actions. However, a recent article by Frank S. Perri, Terrance G. Lichtenwald, and Paula MacKenzie, "The Lull Before the Storm: Adult Children who Kill
their Parents" contests this view and stresses the importance of recognizing a secondary class of parricide offenders who are pushed towards their deeds by an internal psychopathic tendency rather than
abusive environmental factors. This paragraph helps the student introduce the concept of red-collar criminals. The article begins with the authors addressing the problem of attributing all cases of parricide (effectively,
the murder of ones parents) to abuse by citing the existence of a class of criminals known as "red collar criminals", or criminals who commit "vicious and brutal violence" against
individuals who discover frauds and deceptions that the individual wished to hide; evidently, such cases as common in parricides. The origin of "red collar" parricides is an underlying psychopathy,
and in particular, a parental negligence towards the manifestation of psychotic tendencies in a child. Certainly, the difficulty of raising a child who engages in antisocial tendencies such as stealing
or harming animals, or who demonstrates little or no capacity for empathy, is great enough. Most parents are thusly eager to believe that behavioral intervention strategies such as attempting to
discipline their children or adapt them to a socially acceptable code of behavior will work. Unfortunately, this is typically not the case for those individuals suffering from a psychopathic mindset.
Unlike schizophrenics or other types of personality disorders, children who experience psychopathy are not "disoriented or out of touch with reality", they experience no "delusions, hallucinations, or intense subjective distress".
