simplest of things can make a difference in a successful college experience and an unsuccessful one. To be able to attend classes, for example, students must somehow make their
way to campus. Typically this involves the use of a motorized vehicle. These vehicles must be parked while the student attends class. In an ideal world,
there would be enough parking spaces to accommodate not just students and faculties but also the volume of visitors that flock to the campus every day. In the ideal
world student parking would be free. In the real world, however, neither of these criteria are met at the UNLV campus. The intent of this paper is to present
the reasons why campus administrators should provide enough free parking to accommodate UNLV students. Under the current system at UNLV students must pay
for a parking permit to be able to legally park on campus. Even then, of course, the options for parking are severely limited as there are not enough parking
spaces that are designated for student parking. To further complicate the situation, parking fees are not collected as a part of the tuition but require a separate transaction at
a different part of campus. Navigating to the designated location for buying the parking pass requires time and puts a needless strain on new students in particular. Older
students eventually learn where the parking permits are purchased and dont have as much difficulty actually finding the place but old and new students alike have to take time out
of their busy schedule just to obtain a parking pass. This is time that would be better spent in class, studying, or even working.
