Parenting style can vary dramatically between cultures and even social classes within a culture. Traditional peoples within Native American, Latino, and Asian American cultures,
for example, often have significantly different parenting styles than do non-traditional peoples within those cultures. In addition to factors such as religious beliefs and cultural mores, economics is another
critical determinant in parenting styles. To explore the contentions presented above it is appropriate to first consider traditional Native
American cultures. There are, of course, hundreds of Native American cultures, not just one. These cultures can be very similar or radically different. Many times these cultures
have interacted with those outside the culture to the point that they are practically indistinguishable as a culture themselves. Other times, however, Native Americans have maintained very distinct cultural
mores and lifeways. Many Navajo people that live in remote areas are an excellent example of a distinct traditional culture whose parenting styles are unique to them rather
than being barely distinguishable from that of mainstream American culture. Traditional Navajo often live a life that is very different from that expected
