the problem is an important part of gaining awareness of the influence that parental drinking and possession of alcohol has upon todays teens. Consider this: 20% of U.S.
12-year-olds have tried alcohol (Program Seeks to Stop Problem Drinking in Children, 2002). Furthermore, 40% of the children who begin drinking before the age of 13 will go on
to develop an alcohol abuse problem at some point in their lives (Program Seeks to Stop Problem Drinking in Children, 2002). An alarming 20% of ninth graders have consumed
five or more drinks in a row in the past month (Program Seeks to Stop Problem Drinking in Children, 2002). And finally, even more alarming, is the statistic that
almost one-third of all eighth grade students and half of tenth grade students have been drunk at least once (Program Seeks to Stop Problem Drinking in Children, 2002, see also
Adolescents Say Drinking Okay With Parents, 1996). Therefore, the genesis of this problem remains an important research consideration. More specifically,
