the media has a tendency to make daycare appear as a negative influence on children. There are many aspects to the issue of daycare that cannot truly, or adequately, be
discussed or uncovered through any amount of research. In truth, it is likely that every child is different and it is the responsibility of the parents to note if it
is a bad or good thing. In one particular article, however, titled "Short-Term and Long-Term Effects of Early Parental Employment on Children" by Elizabeth Harvey, it is noted that parental
employment seems to have little effect on young children, indicating daycare does not have negative affects, or as many negative affects as commonly believed. The following paper utilizes this article
to uncover three more variables that could be used in her study, and other studies, which would further confound the results of Harveys work. Daycare Variables In our
society today it seems that most mothers work. While many may be leaving the workforce to stay at home with their children, most women work whether they have to or
not. Harveys (1999) work does not seem to address the variable of whether the mother must work or not. In many households it can be assumed that the style of
living the family desires or is accustomed to is only possible through the mother working. It may well be that the households who do not really need the money from
two incomes may have an influence on how well the children do. As an example, one could imagine that a father is making good money, enough money to afford
a middle class lifestyle. It may be that the couple wants more. Perhaps they desire a vacation home, or the money to own really nice cars rather than simple dependable
