person S family and friends. Doctor Kohn calls it the most debilitating form of mental illness. The may because it can come on suddenly and because it takes the patient
outside of reality. The person creates an alternative world and believes it. Schizophrenics have delusions, such as delusions of grandeur and delusions of persecution. They may also have hallucinations where
they see things that are not there hallucinations Hallucinsions can be visual where the patient sees something or auditory where a person hears voices. There are two categories of symptoms.
Positive symptoms include unusual behaviors that interfere with the persons life. delusions and hallucinations are types of positive symptoms because they add something that is not there. Negative symptoms, by
contrast, Dr. Kohn says that about 70 percent of all schizophrenics experience hallucinations. Negative symptoms are those things that should be there but are not, it is the absence of
behavior. One common negative symptoms is people not showing any emotion in situations where emotion would be expected. Or it may be flat emotion in terms of not reacting the
environment. There are several types of schizophrenia. This paper focuses on paranoid schizophrenia. In this case, the person believes others are out to get him. Valerie reports a
