of doing things just prior to the expansion of the canal, in which west coast ports were the most frequently trafficked, and organizations typically disseminated product to the east coast
via rail. This is certainly a more cost-effective method of shipping, but there are certain problems that must be considered when one is looking at this as an overall trend.
The most pressing issue, of course, is that it will take ships from Asia roughly an extra week to ship to east coast ports rather than west coast. For this
reason, shippers will need to find innovative strategies for offsetting the costs of extended shipping times in order to take advantage of the newly available routes, and bypass the need
to utilize rail services to ship freight from coast to coast. This paragraph helps the student begin to define the problem at hand. The opportunities enjoyed by shippers hoping
to ship directly to the east coast are quite vast. For instance, a long history of shipping to the west coast has established conditions wherein west coast have come to
