Nadler-Tushman Congruence Model The congruence model offered by David Nadler and Michael Tushman is based on systems theory as are most congruence models. It is an attempt to understand the very complex dynamics in an organization and more specifically, to understand the behaviors and relationships within a complex organization. Viewing the organization as a social system helps when trying to understand organizational behaviors. An open social system is one that interacts with its environment and in fact, is influenced by that environment. Nadler and Tushmans (1980) model of congruence is based on "critical inputs, major outputs, and the transformation processes that characterize organizational functioning" (p. 39). This model emphasizes interdependence, which refers to how well each department or each component in the organization interact with each other. This model investigates how components fit with each other. When all the components fit well together, the organization will have higher performance than if they do not fit together. Palm, Inc. Organizational Outputs Palm, Inc. provides mobile products for individuals and businesses across the world. Their products include Palm Pre(tm), Treo(tm) and Centro(tm) smartphones and various services and accessories (EDGAR, 2009).
