through the years, or copied elements, and it is a palace whose design seemed specific to a life of grandeur and politics. The following paper examines the architecture, the importance,
and the influence of the Palace of Versailles. Palace of Versailles "The Ch?teau de Versailles -or simply Versailles- is a royal
ch?teau, outside the gates of which the village of Versailles, France, has grown to become a full-fledged city" (Wikipedia). But, the palace was not always a palace. When Louis XIV
was coming into power and truly seeing his future he desired to locate a place, away from Paris, where he "could organize and completely control a government of France centered
upon his person" (Wikipedia). He apparently found this lodge and thus decided to make it into his palace (Wikipedia). It was in
1661 when he put on some additions, additions that would continue at his command for years (Wikipedia). In 1678, however, "Mansart took over the work, the Galerie des Glaces, the
chapel and the two wings being due to him" (Wikipedia). Then, in 1682 Louis XIV moved in along with a great deal of furniture that had actually been plundered (Wikipedia).
Louis XIV wanted to do more than outdo other powers in the creation of this home or palace. He wanted it to
truly become his home and the center of power and much of this seems to have been accomplished through intriguing architectural designs. For example, "symbolically the central room of the
