in history. As the third president of the United States, Jeffersons accomplishments and leadership ability virtually changed the course of history. Throughout his esteemed political career, Jefferson --
whose primary objective with virtually every undertaking was to arouse "our people from the lethargy into which they had fallen..." (Jefferson 8) -- maintained a great deal of belief in
the common man, as well as harbored considerable sympathy and compassion for the inherent challenges. His life was devoted early on to the causes that were close to his
heart, of which the most important was freedom. His political skill was surpassed only by the numerous tasks he performed while associated with the Unites States government. Jeffersons
strong belief in preserving freedom led him to declare that implementing states rights was of utmost importance in order to maintain said freedom. As such, he penned the Declaration
of Independence so as to address the myriad characteristics of freedom; however, it was the manner in which he conducted himself with regard to his accomplishments and leadership that truly
made him a historical hero as a man who "championed rights of the middle-class and small farm owners" (Immigration and Naturalization Service PG). There is no question that through Jeffersons
influence, the United States of America was built on a foundation of democracy and liberty for each and every citizen. It is by way of this infrastructure of democratic
rule that the country has been able to enjoy and pursue the various constitutional rights inherent with being an American. In a country where the people are voluntarily offered
the freedoms of democracy and liberty, it can be said that "... democracy is the privilege of the informed and the involved" (Muczyk PG). And if one is to
