months for you to arrange. You battle through getting out of the house (but being dragged down by kids and spouse who have demands on your time), traffic, slow drivers
and even an accident to get to the office on time. You park the car and, out of breath, dash up three flights of stairs, not even waiting for the
elevator for fear you might be even later. You burst into the office and stumble to the receptionists desk, panting, hoping youre
not awfully late, only to be greeted by a perky smile and the comment, "The doctors not here yet." Almost thankfully, you
sink onto a chair, then glance around the packed office. Your heart sinks. Obviously these people were here before you, and obviously theyre here for the same reason you are
- to see the doctor (who hasnt shown up yet). After half an hour, you start to get antsy. You wonder whats going on at work. You glare at the
receptionist and office staff, who seem unconcerned at their boss delay. You feel your heart racing. After 45 minutes, putting on your "polite cloak," you approach the receptionist and ask
if the doctor has arrived. "Not yet," she responds, with a pleasant smile. "Do
you know when hes coming in?" "He hasnt called to check in yet, so no. Im sorry."
"Well." Time to get tough, you think. "Ive had to re-arrange a lot of things at work to come here. This is really infringing on my time."
