to alternative sources of energy. In this latter arena, the types of alternative energy proposed include wind power, solar power, nuclear and so on. The idea of wind-based power has taken root in West Texas, where both land, and wind, are plentiful. Same thing in some of the mountains of California - again, regions that arent good for much else are great for windmills. And wind seems like a great idea - there is an abundance of it, it doesnt take much to harness it and its a natural resource. Furthermore, it puts desert areas to work - for example, West Texas, which is known for its tumbleweeds and miles and miles of sand and terra-cotta-colored soil, provides a flat, barren and (mostly) unpopulated place for wind farms. Furthermore, wind turbines tend to take up lees space than the average power station - and newer technologies are helping extract wind energy that much more efficiently (Advantages & Disadvantages of Wind Energy). Wind turbines are pretty flexible - they come in a variety of different sizes to support different sizes of populations and their locations (Advantages & Disadvantages of Wind Energy). This should be a slam-dunk, but there are some issues surrounding the use of wind as energy that make it a somewhat difficult resource to use. One huge mark against this natural resource is that its not very reliable (Advantages & Disadvantages of Wind Energy). If the wind strength is too low to support a turbine or farm, the whole endeavor is a waste of money. Furthermore, wind turbines typically products a lot less electricity than the standard power plant (Advantages & Disadvantages of Wind Energy). Another huge disadvantage is that while the windmills themselves are pretty quiet, the turbines arent - ...
