(which follows distributive justice) refers to employee perception of the process that leads to a decision or outcome (Shi et al, 2009). This is typically judged by measuring if the procedures toward overall justice are consistent, unbiased and accurate, as well as open to employee input (Shi et al, 2009). In other words, procedural justice is the perception of the process used to determine a consequence or outcome; and much depends on whether the process was unbiased and fair (Shi et al, 2009). For example, employees who may not have input into a particular scenario may believe that the justice process is not as transparent or unbiased as it should be. On the other hand, however, if employees feel that procedures in place are fair and unbiased, they are more likely to accept outcomes, even if they arent the most optimal. Procedural justice is especially important when it comes to developing a progressive discipline process in a company. In this paper, well outline a system of procedural justice that will help reduce the need for progressive discipline. As we dont have a specific organization on which to base this, well use, as an example, a religious institution. In this scenario, an employee was put on probation because of an inability to meet certain expectations of her supervisors. But because the institution had no set progressive discipline process (and because the employee had not been notified of her transgressions when they had occurred), she felt the procedural justice system was lacking in that it was not a fair and unbiased system. As a result, she left the institution, which meant the organization had to spend more time and resources to find a replacement. ...
