problem-oriented policing involves. First introduced by Herman Goldstein, problem-oriented policing involves subjecting various pieces, or clusters, of similar incidents, crimes or disorders to intense analysis (What is POP? 2009). The
analysis is performed by crime analysts, local police and even the community, with hopes that new strategies will come to light for dealing with the issues What is POP? 2009).
Problem-oriented policing also puts a great deal of emphasis on prevention, and tries to develop solutions that dont rely on the criminal justice system (What is POP? 2009). POP is
also very collaborative, relying on other agencies, the community and the private sector ( What is POP? 2009). With the above in mind, lets move on to our problems
with the elderly. First, an activity name would have to do with the population (senior citizens) and what we plan to do - so something like Gray Protection: Safety for
our Seniors" might work well. The programs description would be two-fold: The first aspect of the program would involve bringing those involved in crime against senior citizens to a quick
justice. The second would involve preventing the crimes from happening in the first place. Regarding the second leg of the program, the only thing we can really do is let
the community know that the situation is happening, and ask community members to keep an eye out in the event of trouble - namely, to be willing to step forward
as witnesses. The prevention aspect we have more control over, which is a good thing. The following could be implemented. Outreach. As mentioned above, inform the community this is happening.
