negative connotations and connections, its no wonder that power is considered to be a bad thing. Its been said that "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Given this, its
no wonder that if someone is considered powerful in an organization, he or she is regarded somewhat warily and not always enthusiastically. But
power isnt necessarily all bad - power in and of itself isnt the problem. Rather, the individuals who wield that power tend to be the problem. Nor is power from
the top echelons of an organization - a striking labor force is a form of power. The idea behind a strike is that, with employees walking off a job, the
organization cant achieve its goals. Power is one of those nebulous things: Its necessary, but its not really well-regarded. When it comes to
issues in change management, power is also necessary. But whats even more necessary is understanding power, how it works and who has it. In fact, its safe to say that
power is critical to understanding the difficulties managers confront when seeking to manage change. But its not only important to understand power - any change initiators also need to understand
how power works, who wields it at any given time, and how it can be used to either subvert change, or to move change initiatives forward. A lack of understanding
of power, in fact, will ensure that any kind of change initiative is doomed to fail. The purpose of this paper, therefore, is
