also said that poverty is an issue in our own backyard. This is definitely the case, particularly in French Canada, specifically in Montreal. Though Canada, as a whole, has a
high standard of living, and although Montreal itself is known for its blend of European charm and North American know-how, the hidden aspect of this French Canadian city is that
there are a great deal of folks who live under the poverty line in this city. Though this problem of poverty has
been recognized, very few steps have been taken to address it, although there seems to be a great deal of discussion about the topic. But the problem in dealing with
poverty in Montreal is that the current solutions out there (government intervention being the main one today), is that its simply a Band-Aid fix for a problem that goes back
decades and in some cases, even centuries. From a social perspective, Montreal has gone through its ups and downs - and this has, indirectly impacted economic perspectives as well.
In this paper, well examine a variety of issues pertaining to poverty in Montreal specifically, and poverty throughout Canada as a whole -
as much of Montreals poverty can be directly tied to various federal programs introduced throughout Canada. Well examine the historical aspect of poverty in Montreal (and in Canada as well),
