streaming, listeners can now select their own content, versus what they hear on the radio. And some of the content listeners select comes from podcasts, which are audio files converted
into mp3 or some other digital format, and available for download to whomever wants to listen. Podcasts (which is a combination of "broadcast" and "iPod") are available through an RSS
feed, which is updated every time a new media file is published or added (Van Orden, 2008). Podcast aggregators (such as iTunes) can be used for subscriptions, and the software
automatically checks for and downloads new audio files as they become available (Van Orden, 2008). The beauty about podcasts is that almost anyone can create them. This doesnt mean that
everyone SHOULD create podcasts, but that the technology is there for those who are interested in doing so. Podcasts are created by everyone from those who want their own talk
shows, to musicians who want to build a fan base, to book authors who want to interest people in buying their books.
The basics of producing a podcast are fairly straightforward and not too expensive - all thats really needed is recording software, and software that can help create the file and
