to do anything to meet those goals. The problem with this approach is theres no framework to it. Instead, the organizations should
move toward strategic planning processes. By doing so, and by understanding what these are about, the organizations can become more successful and hopefully run into less resistance. Planning
Processes Though many different organizations approach planning in a variety of different ways, they all boil down to six steps in a
formal planning process. Perhaps the six-step formal planning process most used in business and management circles has been put together by Thomas Bateman and Scott Snell. The steps are analysis
of the situation, offering up various goals, plans and objectives, evaluation of each one, selecting the ones most likely to work, implementing the goals and objectives, and then monitoring them.
The Bateman-Snell formal planning process is all well and good in theory, but does it work in the real world? Well, lets
take a scenario in which were on a managing team of a home-improvement company. Weve been charged with launching a new company website.
