its rulers and buildings. The three main periods, known as the Old Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom and the New Kingdom, saw Egypts rulers in differing roles, leading to distinctly different
periods in this country. History before the Pharaohs Egyptian history is divided into 31 royal dynasties, typically grouped throughout 8 periods
(History of Ancient Egypt, 2001). Three of the periods, The Old Kingdom, The Middle Kingdom and The New Kingdom were periods during which glorious advances in art and technology took
place. However, in between these periods lay dark ages - known as "Intermediate Periods" in which anarchy, wars and disintegration took place,
Egypt, which arose from the banks of the Nile around approximately 5000 BC, didnt begin as a one-government country to start with (History of Ancient Egypt, 2001). Rather, the country
was run and populated by leaders of different nomadic tribes, all of whom had different cultures, speech and traditions - and no roots in any one location (History of Ancient
Egypt, 2001). During the fourth century, however, these tribes began to come together, and for the next two centuries, land was settled, areas urbanized and forms of government initiated (History
