The close relationships with countries that manufacture electronic products have served to increase accessibility. Trade agreements are likely to increase the level of trade. For example, on the 1st January 2009 a trade agreement; the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA) has come into force, this supports the area strong trading relationship that has been developed between New Zealand and the ASEAN area as prior to this it was dialogue partner wit ASEAN (Asian Pulse, 2009, CIA, 2009). This has facilitated increasing levels of imported electronic goods to supply the retail sector. Other trade agreement that the government have entered into will also have an impact, such as the New Zealand- China Free Trade Agreement and the Trans-Pacific Economic Trade Partnership (NZMFAT, 2009). This has had a general downwards impact on prices as it increases available in numbers and variety of products. Economic Influences The retail electronic trade is suffering as a result of the local and the global recession. This slow down stared in 2008 when in the first quarter of 2008 retail sales as a whole fell by 12%, the largest fall in 11 years (RNCOS, 2008). There is a lower level of disposable income due to difficulties in the economy and unemployment at 5% which is a six year high (Mena Report, 2009). Where there is a lower rate of disposable income there will be a fall in the aggregate demand within an economy. This means fewer goods are bought.
