Management and being a good manager involves more than simply bossing around a group of people. If the only skills necessary in management
were bossiness and throwing ones weight around, almost anyone could be a manager. Effective managers, however, have certain personality attributes and other skills that enables them to motivate individuals into
a team, so those individuals can reach a particular goal. Whats interesting is that we know what constitutes a bad manager. The financial
meltdown of 2007-2009 was definite proof about what NOT to do as a manager. One of the major lessons taken from that period was, first and foremost, not to be
so greedy that stakeholders arent taken into account when it comes to decision-making. The second lesson weve learned is that managers shouldnt be so arrogant and assume theyre infallible and
incapable of making mistakes. Third, and finally, the meltdown taught us what happens when managers fail to take responsibility for, or understand the consequences of, their decisions.
From this, we understand that good managers are accountable for their actions, that they need to behave in such a way as to "do no
harm" to stakeholders and that they need to not be arrogant and greedy. But there is a great deal more to being an effective manager than this. Effective Management and
