that one has fallen into the trap of taking the other partner for granted. Like any other thing, marriage and the relationship that it entails requires that certain skills be
kept strong and that the practice of them does not wane. To that end, then, it becomes evident that if one wants to maintain or revive a marriage/relationship, that there
are certain goals that need to be set, implemented and reinforced. The student may choose one facet of a marriage that needs to be addressed.
For example, the idea of becoming a more loving attentive spouse, may entail opening adequate channels of communication. The specific goal for a person would be to become someone who
does not take the various acts of kindness shown toward them for granted, barely acknowledging them. In many instances, in marriages, this is one of the first steps down a
slippery slope that ends in divorce. Whether in the work world or the home outside of the office, people like to be acknowledged for
their good endeavors or successes. This applies in the home situation as well. Children benefit, most psychologists state, from positive reinforcement. For example, when a child cleans up their room
without having been asked to do so, providing a reward of some type for this, or simply recognizing the effort and the initiative go a long way toward making sure
that the behavior is repeated again. Thus, in a marriage, when one wants to become more loving one of the first steps is to make
a concentrated effort to notice the small kindnesses that ones spouse performs every day(Carter 1996). Saying something along the lines of, "You know, I dont really stop to tell you
