and hiring phases and ongoing training for the employee. It also encompasses the exit interview, as the feedback is useful for the next employee.
How does an appraisal system fit into this? The system is the tool that used by management to help management understand how well the employee is doing, while providing
the employee with the appropriate feedback so she can improve in her job. Though the concept of such a system is positive in theory, the reality of it is it
requires time and commitment from both management and employees. On the management side, the employees need to be monitored, with performance metrics established. For example, if an employee is being
appraised based on the amount of reports generated in a given quarter, this would be the metric established. Management also needs to be prepared to help employees improve by
initiating training or workshops to assist with skills. The appraisal system also requires the employee to be committed to change and understand what is expected from the company. The employee
