tend to forget is that their perceptions rise out of their cultural background. They view and judge everything by their cultural norms and yardsticks. However, to the Middle Eastern way
of thinking, a dictatorship is not only the preferred form of government, but many have this form of government woven into the very fiber of their culture and religion. To
separate one from the other would be unthinkable. Therefore, what Westerners perceive as a criminal form of leadership seems perfectly acceptable to those living in the Middle East. The student
will want to begin, after the introductory paragraph, with his/her first point on the matter. Since it is evident that most people in the West do not know the true
definition of dictator, a brief definition must be supplied. This can be supported with examples. A true dictatorship is one in which one person is determined to be the
leader of a country or a people. This person either gains leadership through inheritance or by violence. Most of the dictatorships in the Middle East were obtained by force. However,
this struggle for the right to lead is viewed as Gods will, or divine destiny(Gerner 2000). Those who are the strongest and who were meant to lead, will lead. With
this in mind, then, it is not surprising that there is such turmoil in that region. Interestingly enough, both democracy and dictatorships are man-made systems of rule where sovereignty
belongs to the human being. The difference, of course, is in the dispersal of power. In a dictatorship, the dispersion of power is limited, whereas in a democracy, most of
