Please Introduction Mention "parental involvement programs" and what might come to mind are extra-curricular activities like
booster clubs, bake sales, field trips and so on. It also used to be that such "parental involvement" was mainly the prevue of the mother, who, because she stayed home
to raise the children, was in a unique position to be able to attend such programs and participate in them. Our society,
however, has changed. More and more moms are in the workforce and simply dont have the time or energy to participate in programs. Dads, as well, may not have the
energy to become involved in their kids academic pursuit. Because of this, participation in parent involvement programs has tended to fall off.
This is especially true in the state of Texas, where "parents" come in all shapes, sizes, ages and cultural differences. On the one hand, the parent might be the upper-middle
class lawyer living in a large house in the rather wealthy Dallas suburb of Highland Park. On the other hand, the parent might be a poor migrant worker passing through
the poverty-stricken town of San Benito. Because of the diversity of Texas parents, trying to target this group to become more
