century, certain questions must be asked, especially in regards to areas of United States foreign policy where it is evident that the approaches of the past are going to be
insufficient for the future. One such area is the United States relationship with China. The history between the two countries is somewhat shaky to the extent that many within China
accuse the United States of having an unofficial containment policy against them. Whatever the case, the US Pacific Command will be instrumental in constructively engaging China in the future, in
the sense that they will be best equipped to engage with the Chinese on the military level, attempting to dissuade and deter the country from employing force and upsetting the
national perspective. This paragraph helps the student assess the gravity of the issue and explain its importance to the paper. Recent analyses of the situation in China attest to its
importance on the global scale. Even ignoring the economic disparities between Chinas booming and growing economy and the United States situation by comparison, the military component of the relationship represents
