be central to psychological inquiry. Unfortunately, the topic has largely been somewhat abstracted in many subfields of psychology, and handled only in a tangential way. In recent years, however, scientists working in the field of biopsychology have made major inroads towards understanding the biological mechanisms that enable and facilitate the psychological and emotional experience of love. The articles covered in this review all touch upon this common development; namely, the role that the chemical oxytocin plays in the brains ability to form attachments to other individuals, and to aid in the process of bonding (Grewen et al., 2005).
