Most people in the United States are well aware of the impact made by the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr.. Even if one does not necessarily know
much of what he did, they are aware that he was a strong leader of the Civil Rights Movement which gave many African Americans equal rights, or more equal rights
than they were experiencing despite laws that insisted they were equal. The following paper examines the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr.. Overview of Martin Luther King
Jr. "Martin Luther King, Jr., (January 15, 1929-April 4, 1968) was born Michael Luther King, Jr., but later had his name changed to
Martin" (Nobelprize.org, 2010). He was the son/grandson of men who were pastors and so this would perhaps naturally become part of his calling. "Martins mother was a schoolteacher and she
recognized that her son was an exceptionally bright child, so she decided to enroll him in the first grade, hoping that he could pass as a six-year-old" (Clayton, 2010; 17).
This did not work out as Martin bragged about his birthday party and revealed that he was only five. But, when he was put into school he was passed ahead
