of weakness. Brian is in the 6th grade and is returning to school after suffering traumatic brain injury. Brian has poor problem solving skills. The observation is that he
does not think through solutions for situations. The goal is to help Brian to learn how to think through the problems. The second goal has to do with Brians
behavior. Since this injury, he has become impulsive. The goal is to help Brian reduce his impulsive behaviors to think before he acts. Brian did not have either of these
problems before the TBI. Prior to this injury, Brian was a slightly above average student academically and exhibited very few behavior issues. Research reveals that following a TBI, many children
exhibit different kinds of learning and/or behavior problems (Watson, 2010). The injuries can result in cognitive, social, and emotional problems (Logsdon, 2010; Mayo Clinic Staff, 2010; Watson, 2010). If the
TBI has left the student with problems in any of these areas, it is important to design an IEP that will help the student overcome these problems. If the injury
is mild, there is no reason the student cannot go on to achieve academic success. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is defined as damage to the brain that is the result
of an injury. It often occurs due to a hard blow to the head that causes the brain to move and basically crash into the skull. Other causes would include
motor vehicle accidents, a serious fall, a gunshot wound, or any type of object that penetrates the skull (Logsdon, 2010; Mayo Clinic Staff, 2010; Watson, 2010). A mild injury will
cause temporary malfunction of cells but a serious injury very often bruises the brain or tears tissues (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2010). There may also be bleeding around the brain. Depending
