Kofi Aprakus book "Outside Looking In: An African Perspective on American Pluralistic Society" offers an interesting view of what our country looks like from the perspective of someone
that wasnt born here but that has spent an extensive portion of his life living here. Apraku first came to the U.S. as an exchange student from Ghana.
Prior to that trip, he had never been outside his own country and, in actuality, had only recently been given the opportunity to explore his own country to any extent.
His knowledge base was that of a boy that had lived his entire life in a very small rural village. Because he was fortunate enough to win a
very prestigious essay competition he became a student ambassador for Ghana. He ultimately spent over two decades studying and teaching in the U.S. "Outside Looking In" testifies to
the fact that over time Apraku evolved into a valued commentator on the circumstances he has encountered in the U.S. Apraku is full
of praise for the U.S. He describes our country as the land of golden opportunity, a land where everyone has the opportunity to do something productive with their lives.
