fish named Oscar. Discussion The film is the story of a Oscar and a misfit shark named Lenny (Jack Black), who is a disgrace to the shark community because hes
a (gasp!) vegetarian. Even worse, hes the son of a shark mob boss Don Lino (Robert de Niro) who expects him and his brother Frankie (Michael Imperioli) to team up
and take over the family business when he retires. When Frankie is killed accidentally, Oscar tells a "great white lie" and takes credit for what is in truth an accidental
death. Doing so he sets himself up for even more trouble, since the mob wants to avenge Frankie. But it all ends happily, with Oscar owning up to his deception
and confessing that Frankies death was an accident. Don Lino is satisfied and at least for a while, there is peace among the various fish species. The film was not
a critical success but the public loved it, as is often the case. Part of the fun is that the characters are drawn to resemble the actors who voice them:
Oscar is long and slim like Will Smith; loan shark Sykes (Martin Scorsese) has Scorseses famous eyebrows; Lola (Angelina Jolie) has huge lips; and so on. But what really sets
Oscar apart is his style-or lack thereof. He wants to be cool and hip, but hes actually pretty silly, mostly because his outlandish schemes never pay off. Oscar is a
blue and yellow fish; his personal colors are blue, green and black, but the yellow predominates, perhaps as a visual signal that hes not quite as courageous as hes pretending
to be. In fact, in the scene where he "kills" Frankie, hes actually swimming as fast as he can to get away from the shark, hardly the image one would
