relatively short story that goes in many directions, with perhaps the first half or more of the work discussing the narrators experiences and conditions, it is a story that is very powerfully descriptive of natives and human struggles. The following paper examines one particular section of Behns work wherein she diverges from Oroonokos story and discusses experiences with the Native Indians of the region. The paper analyzes the importance and significance of this section. Orooonoko As mentioned, the story discusses many different things, especially experiences of the narrator, for much of the story and then the narrator goes into a discussion and examination of Oroonoko, who is given the name Caesar by his owner and thus is generally referred to as Caesar for the remainder of the story. The narrator speaks of his beauty and his past and his power and then there is an incident wherein he battles jungle creatures and is put unconscious by an eel. They sit and enjoy a dinner of eel and then the narrator moves into the section wherein the focus seems to have little relationship to the rest of the story. This section begins with the narrator indicating how dangerous the area was at the time, how the Indian natives and the English were having troubles and how this bothered the narrator because she really wanted to see some of the native villages. Caesar agrees to take them and although Caesar is part of this section it is primarily a section that discusses meeting with the natives and learning some of the customs. She talks of how they want to life her petticoats and examine her garter belt, which she gives to them. She speaks of how she is fully dressed and they are naked, how there was a young ...
