the origins of imagination is infinitely more difficult. Theories abound about the origins of imagination, making such an exploration a philosophical journey. Limiting the journey to that of
Western thought limits the scope, as well as focusing effort on that which predominately concerns Western art. Imagination plays a key
role in many philosophies, ranging from Hellenistic ideologies to those of Kant, the Romantics, and more. Understanding the viewpoints of these philosophers and ideologies lends insight into the process
of imagination. While perhaps finding no greater clarity on the matter, such an investigation does allow for personal interpretation. In other words, perhaps imagination originates from where we
believe it to originate, since one theory is clearly no better able to definitively define imagination over another. We must therefore examine Western thought for that which we can
find evidence of in the art world, and apply these theories accordingly. This paper therefore seeks to reveal major philosophies
about the source of imagination, and in what ways such imagination can have poetic expression. While imagination is the focus of the theory, artistic expression must include the possibility
of poetry, since it is the expression of imagination that allows for emotional comprehension. Introduction Imagination is so many different
things to different people, and the idea of the imagination being "poetic" further complicates any definition. Within artistic interpretations, imagination is credited with being the source of inspiration, and
yet to definitively arrive at such a conclusion relies on the assumption of its origin. Successful works of fine art are often praised as being highly "imaginative"
