source -- Judaism ("Piety and Politics," 1996). Judaism originated with Abraham (also spelled Abram), its founder, who lived around 1700 B.C. (Fellows, 1979). In Genesis, it
is written that Abraham, along with his wife Sarah and his children, was contacted by God and urged to leave their home for a new Hebrew land, Canaan: "Get thee
out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy fathers house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great
nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth
thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed" (Gen., 12:1-4). Relocating his family to parts unknown is one of the ways Abraham proved faith and allegiance
to his god. Another is in the form of what is accepted by Jews as the first covenant. This laid the foundation for the Jewish religion. God
