crime could be described. The following paper, in essence, may or may not be wrong in defining organized crime for it is simply a personal examination/discussion of what organized crime
is perceived to be by the writer of the paper. Organized Crime First and foremost it seems that there have always been individuals, and groups of individuals, who
do not necessarily believe in the laws of a particular culture or society. For example, despite the fact that something is illegal does not mean people do not want that
item. One can look at prohibition, when alcohol was made illegal in the United States, and clearly see that it did not work because people were still going to get
alcohol regardless of the law. This was also one of those times when organized crime flourished because there were huge as well as small networks of power that could make
money off of alcohol since it was illegal. Prohibition seems to serve as a very good example, although it is not perfect for alcohol had been legal and so
the society was used to having it and thus would not simply sit quite while it was illegal. But, Prohibition is a good example of organized crime for it speaks
of how a group of people will grab onto the power, the cultural as well as economic power, associated with a product that is illegal. One could well argue that
organized crime happens because people will always want something that is illegal and there will always be individuals who desire power yet are not the type of person who wants
