that many of the details regarding security are not made public. Monsoter.com is an online job agency. The site allows job seekers to register and upload personal details as
well as CV and access job details. In 2007 the firm suffered a breach of security when hackers located in the Ukraine managed to access the system and gain the
personal details of more than 1.3 million registrants (BBC News, 2007). It was stated that the hackers did not gain any sensitive data, only gaining access to names, addresses and
email addresses. However, even this posed a security threat and the names and email addresses were subsequently used for phising. This exposed the individual to the risk of giving away
further details, especially if emails were made out to look like a site that the user had already registered with, such as Monster.com itself. The problem was further exacerbated as
Monster.com was also the technology supplier to the federal jobs site, USAJobs (usajobs.opm.gov), whch also suffered the same breach. The reaction of Monster.com saw the breach dealt with in two
ways. The first was the eventual decision to go public on the breach. This was needed as those who had their data composed may not be facing an immediate threat,
as the data was not sensitive, but there was increased potential to gain sensitive from the companys clients by sending out emails that may appear to be from Monster.com. The
