been astounding. This technology basically shrunk the world in terms of communication. Multinational corporations have grown in number and in size over these decades due in part to advances and
innovations in technology. Another factor that changed organizations is people. There is far greater diversity in the workforce of most organizations than at any other time in history. This
is both a driving external and internal force. It is external insofar as the populations of major industrial countries has changed itself through immigration and that inherently leads to internal
driving forces with the subsequent diversity. Catalyst Statement Bolman and Deal (2003) said: "organizations have changed as much in the past decade or two as in the
previous century" (p. 10). This is a statement that can be supported and affirmed rather easily. All we need to do is to review the inventions and innovations in the
last few decades and compare those to the innovations and inventions between the late 19th century and the mid- to late-20th century. Changes That Cause Changes in Organizations
As Bolman and Deal (2008) said, organizations has no choice. If they were to survive, they had to change. Some of these changes were spurred by the rapid advances in
information technology, the emergence of a strong global economy, and changes in product life cycles that are shorter (Bolman and Deal, 2008). It was in 1981 that IBM released
their first personal computer. This began a revolution in the world and it had an impact on all aspects of life. This would be followed by the Apple Computer and
then the Mac computer and numerous others making it easy for organizations to use computer technology. Computers got faster and more versatile and they continue to change all the time.
