Organizational misbehaviour is characterised by employees doing anything at work that they are not supposed to do. and Thompson define this as "anything you do at work you are not supposed to do" (page 2). This obviously includes a wide range of behaviours, which may be divided
into four type of misbehaviour; appropriation of time, appropriation of work, appropriation of product and appropriation of identity (Ackroyd and Thompson, 1999). Furthermore Ackroyd and Thompson argue that misbehaviour is
the result of an imposed definition as a result of the group that has the power. This may seem a simple idea,
employees misbehaving, however, employees do not live in an isolated environment, their behaviour is influenced by many factors, not only their own values and attitudes, and events in their private
lives, their behaviour and reactions at work are also the result of the work environment and as such there is some degree of input fro the employers and management. If
this were not the case all employers would see the same level of organisational misbehaviour in all companies, especially those with similar profile employees, but this is not the case,
some employers are able to motivate employees gaining high levels of loyalty and commitment which discourages organisational misbehaviour, others appear less able to engender to good feeling of the employees
and end up with a poor employment relationships. Looking at the four types of misbehaviour Ackroyd and Thompson describe these may be
