her own practice. Discussion People need motivation. They dont just do things for the sake of doing them, they need a reward of some kind, whether its money, or prestige,
or simply the satisfaction of doing a difficult task well. Motivation is defined as a "reason or set of reasons for engaging in a particular behavior," and can include anything
from meeting basic need for food and shelter to meeting some high ideal (Different theories of motivation). Motivation helps people achieve their goals; gives them a "positive perspective"; builds self-esteem;
builds capability; and perhaps most importantly, creates in them "the power to change" (Different theories of motivation). Motivation is extremely important, and there are two "different categories of motivation theories,"
content and process theories; no theories are universally accepted (Different theories of motivation). However, we can look at some of the motivational concepts; the student will be able to decide
which of these is most applicable to their situation. Motivational concepts include "reward and reinforcement"; cognitive dissonance; and the needs theory, among others. Reward and reinforcement occurs when a reward
follows an "occurrence of a specific behavior" such that the behavior is acknowledged in a "positive way" (Different theories of motivation). The reward is a way of encouraging the person
to repeat the behavior (Different theories of motivation). There are to kinds of rewards, intrinsic and extrinsic (Different theories of motivation). Intrinsic rewards come from within the individual, while extrinsic
