means a complete list; there are just too many management theories and organizational tools to put in a paper this short. Discussion One of the most important tools
is conflict resolution, because, although it is sometimes necessary for a manager to intervene in his subordinates "squabbles," most of the time he should remain neutral; settling arguments is not
the best use of his time. Managers often spend time dealing with matters that are "urgent but not important" (Mollica, 2005). Something "urgent" needs immediate attention, whereas something "important"
actively contributes to the companys well-being (Mollica, 2005). (Mollica uses the example of a lack of toilet paper in the employee rest rooms: its urgent but not important).
Managers have to learn to differentiate between the two. She suggests that a manager should also learn to listen to an employee and be supportive while at the
same time refusing to "take ownership of the employees problem" (Mollica, p. 111). That is, refuse to solve it for them, get involved, or take sides. This is where
managers need to train employees in conflict resolution, and the training "should be ongoing" (Mollica, 2005, p. 111). This training often starts with a self-evaluation so employees "understand their
own conflict-management styles and the pros and cons of using a particular style" (Mollica, 2005, p. 111). After the training is complete, managers should make it clear that employees
