workplace setting. By diversity, Peppas (2002) describes the workforce as a "salad bowl" (rather than a melting pot), in which many different cultural and ethnic subcultures exist, each embracing
their own set of values. With the emerging focus on diversity in educational, business and organizational structures, Peppas (2002) proposes his research study in order to test the belief
that American subcultures have significantly different beliefs, attitudes and values regarding management processes. The purpose of this study, then, is to test this view, and Peppas (2002) proposes
assessing management values relative to African- and Euro-American perspectives. Because Peppas has studied variations in general value sets for African- and Euro-American populations and found significant differences between these
two populations regarding issues like hard work, equality of opportunity and formality, the author proposed the study to compare and contrast culture and subculture views, with the expectation that continued
differences would appear. As a result, Peppas (2002) presents a study of 18 value statements that are related to the function of management in a business structure, in order
to determine if variations in views exist in the workplace setting. Subject Population The author selected the African-American subculture and the Euro-American dominant culture because of prevalent views
in the current literature (Belfry and Schmidt, 1988/1989 and Hofstede, 1993) regarding variations in the views of subcultures and the perceived need to apply diversity training in the workplace setting.
The subject population was selected from a group of students enrolled in an MBA program and a Masters of Technology Management program at a school of business, all of
