financial hits and live to fight another day, no matter what the problems. Again, just as people must deal with issues that crop up--an overbearing mother in law, a bounced
check, a missing child--they realize that daily life holds both large and small problems. No matter what the problem, firms can steer through the changes and come out no worse
for wear. In fact, companies can emerge stronger than ever as they effectively manage change. Of course, that is easier said than done. Many people, including individual employees, will resist
change. Hartzell (2003) claims that people resist change when they think it will hurt their professional status or others perceptions of their competency (2003). Companies may employ particular strategies
such as using management tools and programs to get them through rough transitions. Total Quality Management is popular today while Management By Objectives was popular in the eighties. Yet, while
management and opportunities for growth are continual, so are the problems that crop up. How they are handled can set the tone for future success. Many companies can effective manage
change, but some with poor leadership cannot. In investigating this phenomenon, a case study will be used. To that end, a firm called Cai Lan Oils & Fats Industries will
