These authors believe that the term refers to the total architecture of the organization that is "an organic template for operating" (Hurt and Hurt, 2007, p. 86). Many have contributed
to the concept of the business model, beginning with systems approach theorists (Hurt and Hurt, 2007). Michael Porters generic strategies also laid the foundation to much of todays thinking about
business models as did Miles and Snows Adaptive Cycle model (Hurt and Hurt, 2007). Another major contributor to this concept is the view that an organization is an entity that
is "formed as a set of interactive linkages" (Hurt and Hurt, 2007, p. 86). This is the 7-S framework that was reportedly developed nearly simultaneously by Pascale and Athos in
1981 and by Peters and Waterman in 1982 (Hurt and Hurt, 2007). Pascale and Athos were describing the factors that were primarily responsible for the success of the Matsushita Corporation
in Japan (Hurt and Hurt, 2007). They said it was the interrelationships of numerous elements and components that led to success (Hurt and Hurt, 2007). At nearly the same time,
in 1982, Peters and Waterman who were working at McKinsey & Company, a consulting firm, were identifying the factors of success in numerous companies; it was their study that led
to McKinseys 7-S framework for organization success (Mind Tools, 2008; Hurt and Hurt, 2007). Because the model focuses on the internal aspects of the organization, it is sometimes referred to
