that the brain could receive data, store it, retrieve it and then process and interpret it at some higher level, such as in some symbolic ways such as in language. It is further hypothesized that our minds are ordered in the same way as the natural order of the universe. There are four natural orders: 1. Topical order where things have a natural place, for instance, heavy weights drop, planets orbit, water flows down. 2. Analogical order which is related to similarities - flowers and trees are flora, apples and oranges are fruit, a ball and a planet are roundish. The mind recognizes these similarities. The mind also recognizes differences. 3. Chronological order where things occur in sequence or where one thing follows another. Examples, flowers are planted, grow, blossom and die, day turns to night, changes take place over time and/or in sequence. 4. Causal order, which relates to cause and effect. If we hear a clatter of dishes in the kitchen, we conclude that someone dropped something. Events that were once considered a jumbled mass or chaotic are now known to have order (chaos theory). Hurricanes are a good example because decades ago, people thought they were a just chaotic mess of driving rain and wind but today, we know there is order. When we find the reasons for things, we call them causes and what happens as a result are called effects, thus cause and effect. These same four natural orders are found in our minds, in other words these four orders are both natural and mental but there are other orders that are primarily mental. They are identified as such because they are human structures, such as alphabetizing a list or seating arrangements.
