30% and of most concern is the figure for quality improvement, which is 50% (Maurer, 1997). The change that this organisation had to
face was a reorganisation of the information systems. The computer systems that had been in place for many years had been upgraded and improved. However this had resulted in
a set of computer programmes, the people using them would often have to leave one programme just to get into another. The system was fragmented. There had been many complaints
over the years about the inconvenience of the different systems. When a new single programme was announced management indicated this would be
a great opportunity and that it would save employees a great deal of time and hassle. Unfortunately, it was not seen by employees in the same way. There was fear
and resistance, with employees cared of the new system and what it meant for them. There was an immediate backlash. It was apparent that the management had not considered this
from the employees perspective, there was no consultation and the relationship become confrontational. There were many aspects that had never been an issue start to arise such as exact time
keeping and higher levels of sickness, as well as lower production rates. These all emerged within a few weeks. From a successful company, the organisation had reduced in all important
