them" (Middleton, 2002). It is therefore possible to see how the collective of individuals which make up the organisation can have a impact on the way in which the challenges
are met within the commercial world. The influences on the organisation the influences on the individuals and the society in which the organisation operates. Influences such as attitudes, values, ethics,
personalities and cultural differences will all have a potentially material influence. There are many examples which indicate the importance of organisational behaviour and understanding its influences and therefore way it
may be managed; companies such as Boeing have seen massive changes when they have tackled the attitude and behaviour patterns rather than simply looking at systems and forgetting the impacts
on the individual, especially in terms of motivation., Other companies, such as Hewlett Packard and Microsoft, have meet challenges with developments fuelled by intellectual capital.
There are many ways in which culture may be seen as being formed, communicated, emphasised and retained. The culture may be seen as the embodiment of the norms,
values and beliefs. These may be seen as isolated within the company, or reflections of the wider general culture of the area or region.
The culture will embody the aspects such as morals, ethics and the use of tools such as empowerment (Veiga, 1993). This will be reflected in the way they
