The ability to transplant a human organ from one body to another is one of the most miraculous
wonders of modern medicine. Organ transplants, however, go hand-in-hand with many considerations. While some of these considerations are obviously purely scientific and technological in their manifestation, others
are ethical. Deciding who gets the few organs that are available for transplant is one of the most complex of these considerations. It involves insuring the best match,
i.e. the recipient most likely to be compatible with the transplant and the most worthy. It is important that medical practitioners and those
in need of organs themselves step back and realize that the same ethical, philosophical, and moral issues that characterize other of the more civilized aspects of our lives also should
characterize organ transplantation. Although largely positive, numerous problems result from modern medicines recent capability in terms of organ transplantation. While some of the problems demand an address from
a strictly business perspective, others can benefit from a philosophical address as well. Obviously, in most cases a death must occur
