of many. This brings to mind people who are generous and altruistic, offering their organs to help people, or people who simply put themselves down as organ donors in the
event of their death. But, there are also many ethical and moral elements to this issue. For example, getting an organ if needed is not a simple thing and the
ways in which a person is deemed urgently in need of an organ vary greatly. In addition, there are those who think that in order to increase the amount of
organs available donors, and/or their families, should be monetarily compensated for the gift. The following paper examines these two issues and ultimately illustrates how it is a very complex and
fragile topic that is likely very personal and thus cannot be answered with any concrete solution. Recipient Selection As mentioned, the ways in which a an individual
in need of an organ transplant is very complicated. In addition, it appears as though each community, state, city, or hospital district has its own particular criteria for determining who
gets an organ when it becomes available. For example, in one hospitals website on the topic it is noted that "When a person has been declared dead and his/her organ
donation wishes shared, the process of donation can begin" (University Hospital). There is a form of consent that is necessary and then the organ is taken out, prepared, and transported
to where it would be needed (University Hospital). "The United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) Organ Placement Specialist is given medical information about the donor and the organs, which is
entered into a computer that runs a match to compile a list of potential recipients, in order of priority" (University Hospital). It is also noted by this particular
