aspects of Nazi power. Most people do not stop to consider that without the ordinary people much of what happened in the Holocaust may not have happened. People with power
must have, to some degree, the support of the people, the common people, and such is the case in relationship to the Holocaust and the Nazi party. In understanding this
perspective further the following paper examines two works focusing on this subject. The works are Daniel Goldhagens "Hitlers Willing Executioners" and Jan Gross "Neighbors." The paper analyzes them and then
discusses which work makes a better case. Ordinary People and the Holocaust As mentioned, most people do not stop to consider the possibilities of normal people having been
involved in the horrors of WWII as it involved Jews and the Holocaust. Goldhagen (1997) states, "A decent estimate of how many people contributed to the genocide, of how many
perpetrators there were, has never been made" (Goldhagen, 1997; 5). And, he argues that the Germans "had to induce a large number of people to carry out the killings" (Goldhagen,
1997; 9). His work focuses on explaining why these people, these ordinary people, were often a part of the horrific realities. In Jan
Grosss work we are presented with the truth of what happened in a Polish town, Jedwabne, in relationship to the murdering of many Jewish people. A massacre took place and
in the past it has often been argued it was the fault of the Nazis. However, Gross reveals the truths that it was the Polish people in this small town
